He's worth hearing.

Jim & I still look at each other whenever we see Douglas Brinkley on TV, and say, "Can you believe we sat and listened to them at lunch?" We still pinch ourselves.Lesahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12946133849271512083noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9995206.post-26574255642207146462008-05-04T14:44:00.000-05:002008-05-04T14:44:00.000-05:00Lucky, lucky you! What a treat.

Glad you enjoyed the book!Leshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08345657431432380804noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9995206.post-53891013259407419202008-04-30T22:27:00.000-05:002008-04-30T22:27:00.000-05:00I did like the book, Les, but you're right. Shout...I did like the book, Les, but you're right. Shoutin' was my favorite as well.

I can't help but like Bragg's books. I've even read his newspaper articles. I love the way he uses language, and paints a picture. I could see that sad town, and feel for his father. My favorite chapters, though, were the ones about his son.

Bragg is authentic on CSPAN, but, oh, in person! He was one of the kindest authors I've ever met. He gave his undivided attention to every person who wanted to talk to him. And, he signed books as long as he had a line.

Here's where I was really lucky. Jim and I had lunch with Rick Bragg and Douglas Brinkley, just the four of us. And, we just listened to them talk about publishing and books. What a treat! We felt as if we were permitted to hear secrets, although it was nothing private. But, just to hear the two of them talk to each other! They were both so nice.

Thank you again, Les, for sending me The Prince of Frogtown.Lesahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12946133849271512083noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9995206.post-91657067850806728752008-04-30T21:52:00.000-05:002008-04-30T21:52:00.000-05:00Very nice review, but I'm curious -- did you like ...Very nice review, but I'm curious -- did you like the book? I still think All Over But the Shoutin' is his best. I loved it and hope to read it again someday. This one just didn't affect me the same way as Shoutin' (and I couldn't get into Ava's Man). How lucky of you to have met Bragg. I've seen him on Cspan, but have never seen him in person.Leshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08345657431432380804noreply@blogger.com
