Winners & A Dog & Cat Giveaway

Congratulations to the winners of last week's contests. Hannah Reed's Hooked on Ewe will go to Jeannette M. from Ventura, CA. Jane R. of Driftwood, TX won Paul Levine's Bum Rap. And, Sue F. of Crosslake, MN will receive James O. Born's Scent of Murder.

Do you want to win a crime novel featuring a dog or a cat this week? The Josie Prescott Antiques mystery, Blood Rubies by Jane K. Cleland, features the cat. Josie is supposed to appear on a reality TV show to appraise a spectacular Faberge snow globe. But, when Josie arrives for the show, she finds a murder victim and a smashed snow globe. Cleland combines mystery and antiques expertise.

Just look at that face on David Rosenfelt's Hounded. Rosenfelt brings us a story about family and a legal thriller. Lawyer Andy Carpenter gets a strange call from a friend, a policeman asking him to drop everything and bring his girlfriend to an unfamiliar address. That address is a crime scene where his friend, Pete, wants them to take care of an eight-year-old boy and his pet basset hound. The boy is now orphaned, and Pete is under suspicion for the death of the boy's father, an ex-convict. Pete needs Andy to take care of the boy, the dog, and represent him.

Dog or cat? You can enter to win both, but I need separate entries. Email me at Lesa.Holstine@gmail.com. Your subject heading should read either "Win Blood Rubies" or "Win Hounded." Please include your name and mailing address. The contest will end Thursday, July 16 at 6 PM CT. Entries from the U.S. only, please.

I'm definitely a dog person. I like Rosenfelt's series. A friend (a Golden retriever fanatic) was thrilled to be able to visit him and play with all his rescue Goldens.

Cats for me, Jeff, although I'll certainly play with a dog when given the opportunity. I know Rosenfelt has a number of rescue Goldens. I'm sure they give him a lot of love in return.

You're welcome, Jane. Good luck!

I had a dog, but I'm really a cat person (no winter walkies).

I agree, Nora. Even when I was in Arizona - no walking when it was 115 degrees.

What a great cover for Hounded. Their ears really do sway!

I'll enter for both but cats are by far my favorites. The Josie Prescott Antiques series is one of my best loved series. I almost - almost - hate to read them when they first come out because then I have to wait so long for the next one!

Isn't that a lovely cover, Holdenj? I think so, too.

And, that series just continues to get better, doesn't it, Karen?

Cats for me too! I love the Josie Prescott series. I think of her as Agatha Christie's heir because of the way she gives her clues. She also avoids a lot of the single woman angst which is getting very very old as far as I'm concerned. Best of all, there are so many fascinating facts about antiques, collectibles, and the antique trade. Wonderful series! In fact, I think you introduced me to this series, Lesa, as you have so many other books. Let me take this opportunity to tell you how much I enjoy your blog.

Jeanne! What a wonderful compliment from one librarian to another. Thank you. It's always fun to introduce readers to new books and new series. It's part of the fun job of working in a library, isn't it? Thank you!
