Jill Mansell's latest romantic comedy, The Unexpected Consequences of Love, introduces a likable cast of characters whose misunderstandings lead to humor, and finally, happily-ever-after endings. If you appreciate a fun romance with mature characters, you might want to try this one.
Dot Strachan owns Mariscombe House, a hotel in the small town of St. Carys, on the north coast of Cornwall. Her grandson, Josh, the co-owner, has returned from the U.S. Together with his best friend, Riley Bryant, they enjoy lives as men about town with no ties. When photographer Sophie Wells takes an assignment at Mariscombe House, though, Josh falls hard. But, Sophie has a secret in her past, and she refuses to date. Josh isn't willing to give up on the attractive woman with a sense of humor.
When Sophie's best friend,Tula, loses her job as a waitress, she accepts a job at Mariscombe House. She's not Riley's type, but he's captivated by her. Tula only has eyes for Josh, though, and sees Riley as a lazy player, fun, but no one to get serious about.
Then, there's Dot herself. Although her husband once left her, he's interested in her again. And, then there's the Frenchman who is also interested in Dot.
