Ten Years...and Counting
On Jan. 6, 2005, I wrote my first blog post. Now, it's Lesa's Book Critiques, but at the time my blog was called Nikki's World. Why not? We all know how much Nikki loves books.
My blog was always intended to be a place where I could share my love of books, authors, and reading. That hasn't changed. Over the last ten years, I've written 3,700 posts. And, except for those few that celebrated family or vacation trips to places such as New York City, Santa Fe, New York City, Monterey, New York City..., these entries have been about books.
Thank you to all the publishers, publicists and authors who have sent books for me to read and review, or give away, over the last ten years. And, thank you to all the authors who have written guest posts here. I also appreciate a couple friends who have written guest reviews. Thank you. And, a big thank you to Barbara Peters and The Poisoned Pen Bookstore in Scottsdale, Arizona, my favorite independent bookstore, and one that became home in the last four years I was in Arizona. It was always a pleasure to cover events at the Pen, and attend teas and author appearances. You don't know how much I miss The Poisoned Pen.
Most of all, thank you to all the readers who read Lesa's Book Critiques, and comment occasionally. Reading books is wonderful, but it's even better when I can share thoughts about books with all of you. You all have busy lives, and I know it takes time to bring up the blog, read the posts and comment. Thank you. I can't promise you I'll be writing about books for the next ten years. Look what has changed in our lives over the last ten years. I can promise you that as long as I'm writing here, I'll try to make Lesa's Book Critiques interesting, entertaining, and a book site that welcomes readers.
I think there might have been a misunderstanding, though, about my New Year's resolution. I'm not cutting back on the blog itself. What I am cutting back on is obligations. There will be fewer dates promised to publicists, unless it's a guest post. I'm not going to obligate myself to as many dates for reviews. Why should I be required to review something on a certain date? I want to still experience the joy of a book, rather than the feeling that I'm required to read it.
As I've said from the very beginning, my goal is to share my love of books and reading with all of you. So, thank you for the past ten years. And, here's to the start of year eleven. Hopefully, 2015 will bring wonderful, exciting books to all of us!
