Gummi Bears, Authors & Books

Yesterday was really my day off. I went to Scottsdale, and met up with Louise Penny, author of The Beautiful Mystery. I traded a bag of her beloved gummi bears for an autograph in my copy of the book. (Not really, and she brought me a chocolate bar filled with gummi bears.)

Then, I went to the Poisoned Pen to hear her talk about The Beautiful Mystery. So, here's the most important comment she made in the program. Her books are not really about murder, but what murder dislodges in a community.

I was late enough getting home that I didn't have time to recap the Louise Penny event. And, because I was gone, I didn't have a chance to finish Hank Phillippi Ryan's new book, The Other Woman. I can't do justice to either of them today by rushing through either the recap or the book.

So, I'll do a Sunday event here. I'm finishing Hank's new book. It's terrific, deserving of all the rave reviews it has received. And, today is release day. I'll have the review tomorrow, and the recap on Thursday. So, while I finish both of those, what are you reading?

I just finished The Beautiful Mystery last night. It is a dark, foreboding story, one of the three best I've read so far this year.

Don't you two look so cute there? Glad you had a good time and a real holiday yesterday. I'm also glad that the PP has started filming some of the author events. I look forward to listening to what Louise had to say at her event last night. And regarding THE BEAUTIFUL MYSTERY? Oh..my..goodness! It was fabulous and heartbreaking and so, so good!

What a wonderful way to spend your day! Sounds like great fun! I'm just finishing Carolyn Hart's newest book, Death Comes Silently. I'm really looking forward to reading The Beautiful Mystery as well as Ryan's The Other Woman. So many books on my list. I love it!

Joe,

I'm so pleased to hear you say that. Now, I want to know what the other two books are that are on your list of your best this year.

Wasn't it a wonderful book, Kay? I was talking to another reader last night. Like me, she said she savored it, reading every word. I took a day and a half just to pour over it. I don't often do that.

Jane,

Two very different books, but I think you'll like both of them!

I finished The Trinity Game by Sam Chercover yesterday and now I'm reading Devious by Lisa Jackson.

By the way, Lesa, I read your review of The Trinity Game. I totally agree with your review, even though you are far more eloquent than I am. I can't wait for the sequel.

I can hardly wait to read your recap of Louise at the Pen and your review of The Other Woman, Lesa. I'm halfway through the Trinity Game, only stopped midway (and missed Louise) because new grandboy, Gunnar, interrupted.

Thanks, Joe.

I have that Wiley Cash book on a TBR pile. Now that I know it was one of the best books you read this year, I'll have to try to get to it soon. Thanks!

Oh, good, Karen! I'm glad you liked The Trinity Game. It's going to be interesting to see where Sean goes from here.

Lesa said...

Well, congratulations on the new grandboy, Roni! I can understand why you missed Louise.

Lesa, The Beautiful Mystery is on the top of my TBR pile. Not reading right now. I have the same virus I had when Louise brought out another book a few years ago. Do her books give me viruses? Naw, coincidince.

Hi, Louise!

Lesa said...

Has to be a coincidence, Bev. Louise's books would certainly not spread viruses, unless they were a book-loving virus. You're going to love the book, when you're up to reading again.
