Winners and Book-related mystery giveaway

Congratulations to the winners of the books on cd. Louise Penny's A Trick of the Light will go to Cindy M. from Eden, UT. Daniel M. of Weymouth, MA won Mary Higgins Clark's I'll Walk Alone. I'll mail out the Clark one tomorrow. The publisher will be sending the Penny cd.

This week, I have autographed mysteries that relate to books. When Kate Carlisle appeared for Authors @ The Teague, I had her autograph the first in her Bibliophile Mystery series, Homicide in Hardcover. Now's your chance to meet Brooklyn Wainwright, a book restorer. When Brooklyn finds her mentor dying, he leaves her a strange message, and a copy of Goethe's Faust. But, she's accused of murder and theft, so has to make sense of the clues herself.

Or you could win an autographed ARC of Denise Swanson's Murder of a Bookstore Babe. School psychologist Skye Denison is looking forward to the opening of a new bookstore, but others in town aren't so excited. and someone is angry enough to commit murder. It's Skye that trips over a toppled bookcase in the store, and finds a woman crushed under it. Will she herself be crushed by a killer?

So, which mystery would you like to win, Homicide in Hardcover or Murder of a Bookstore Babe? You can enter to win both books, but I need separate entries. Email me at  The subject lines should read, either "Win Homicide in Hardcover" or "Win Murder of a Bookstore Babe."  Include your name and mailing address in the body of the email.  Entries only from the U.S., please.

The contest will close Thursday, Sept. 15 at 6 PM PT when I'll draw the winners using a random number generator. I'll notify the winners, and I'll mail them the next day.

It's been my pleasure to host both Kate and Denise in North Carolina—and to introduce them to readers in the Triangle area.

I just came across Kate's full bibliophile series (read but unsigned) in one of my stacks. i'm bundling it to share with the avid readers at our community center. Kate, sorry you'll miss the royalties on these, but I'm sure you'll pick up more fans!

That's true! That's why I give away books on my blog. I know the authors may might up more readers. And, the authors know it as well. That's why some of them, such as Cleo Coyle, even participate in the contests themselves. Readers sometimes equals sales!

That is so true about getting new readers by someone getting a free book or by someone sharing a copy of a book. I'm proof of that. When I find a new (to me) author I want to read everything by her or him, usually. I think that's why some authors offer free or bargain e-books, usually the first of a series.
