Glendale Librarian Lauded for Book Reviews

I just wanted to share this terrific article with you. Polly Baughman in our marketing department worked hard to get this article to happen. And, I thought Cecelia Chan, the reporter, and Carlos Chavez, the photographer, did a very nice job. The Glendale Republic, part of The Arizona Republic, published this today.

I'm grateful to Janet Rudolph, Louise Penny, and Beth Hoffman, for taking time to talk to Cecelia Chan.

And, I'm grateful to every one of you readers for sharing my love of mysteries and books, and discussing them here with me. Thank you!

"Penny in turn praised Holstine as 'one of the most highly respected commentators and opinion makers in crime fiction today.'

She said Holstine's reviews are elevated above many in the literary world because she doesn't read other reviews before publishing her own.

'She trusts her own judgment and stands behind it, rather than figuring out where the parade is heading and joining it. She's her own person. Very rare. Very precious,' Penny said...."

I'm so happy you shared this with us, Lesa. Marc and I could not agree more. You, and the thoughtful work you do, is indeed very precious--to us and to so many others. Thank you!

And, you helped make that article special, Beth. I heard from one reader who said she discovered, and loved, Saving CeeCee Honeycutt after reading my review. And, another reader who said she'd have to try it. So, your comments did get some attention. Thank you, again, my friend.

Definitely my pleasure, Diana. I love mysteries, and enjoy sharing my love of them.

Congratulations!! Thank you for sharing this wonderful article with us.

I'm a relatively new follower of your blog and I make sure to check it every day. I've been leaning towards reading more mysteries; your blog steers me in the right direction and you introduce me to some new (to me) authors.

Enjoy the accolades!

Thank you, Karen. I hope you enjoy the experience of discovering new authors. And, I hope you enjoy the authors and books you find here. I know everything won't be for you, but it's so much fun to learn what fits our moods.

LOVE IT!!! You ARE a Rock star to us!! It's about time your praises were sung in the newspapers! Very deserving and pretty darn terrific.

Lesa said...

Thank you. I don't think of myself that way since it's the authors and their books that are so important.

It's great that you get your chance at the limelight, Lesa. You have introduced me to so many interesting authors in the past few months that I'll have reading material for years. You have a real gift for making books come alive. Thanks. Liz M.

Thank you, Liz! Nothing could be higher praise for a librarian than "You have a real gift for making books come alive." Thank you.

Fantastic article, and so true. You really deserve the praise and recognition.

Your blog, reviews, summaries of events at the Poisoned Pen and conferences are stellar.

Thank you, kathy. I love to share all of that with other readers. I'm glad you enjoy it!

I just realized that the comments about the article I sent to you personally and I didn't note anything here on the blog.

I certainly agree that your reviews are well written, fair, timely, and diverse. I like your blog and reviews so much that I ended up agreeing to contribute. I'm so proud and honored for that opportunity. There's no place else I'd rather contribute and no one else I'd rather "work" with. We both love books and it's so much fun to "talk books" with such a knowledgeable woman. Thanks for it all. Sandie
