I enjoy seeing what everyone else is reading anyways. Talk about pressure. There's an unbelievable amount at work right now, so this is good. I'm glad you came up with this suggestion, and that others approved. Thank you.Lesahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12946133849271512083noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9995206.post-3647759094744509062012-08-22T15:34:16.317-05:002012-08-22T15:34:16.317-05:00I'm reading 'The Proper reatment of Blood ...I'm reading 'The Proper reatment of Blood Stains', a Dandy Gilver mystery by Catriona MacPherson, a young Scottish author whom I really recommend.

Dandy is an aristocratic wife in 1920s England - she is bored with her life and sets up as a private detective. So far in this story she has infiltrated the home of a wealthy young woman who thinks her husband is out to kill her - by becoming a lady's maid 'below stairs' in Heriot Row, one of the most expensive streets in Edinburgh. The general strike is about to take place, and the household staff are divided in their allegiances.

It's Daisy's character that makes the books - she is intrepid, but with a great line in self-deprecating humour. She also has a sweet dog called Bunty. The settings are also well done - the last one I read was set in Fife, amongst old-fashioned and superstitious farming families, whose males disapprove when the women want to join the new-fangled 'rurals' (Scottish version of Women's Institute) - but it also involves witchcraft.

Lisa, I agree - take Sundays off! We won't mind - I don't think any of us can keep up with you!

RosemaryRosemary Kayehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17284340669326721343noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9995206.post-90810812152997059092012-08-22T15:34:06.144-05:002012-08-22T15:34:06.144-05:00I'm reading 'The Proper reatment of Blood ...I'm reading 'The Proper reatment of Blood Stains', a Dandy Gilver mystery by Catriona MacPherson, a young Scottish author whom I really recommend.

Dandy is an aristocratic wife in 1920s England - she is bored with her life and sets up as a private detective.
